The Drama Space
There are two Drama specific learning areas which effectively allow students to take the role of actor, director and critic, both spaces are equipped for full performances with lighting and a sound system.
Key Stage 3
In Key Stage 3 students develop their skills and are assessed in three main areas: creating, performing and evaluating. During Year 7, learners study key terms and skills, mask and mime, script work, devising and physical theatre. In Year 8, students develop their performance skills further and study script work, devising and create Theatre in Education pieces.
Key Stage 4
Students are able to study towards a GCSE in Drama or a BTEC in Performing Arts. Both courses provide students with the opportunity to develop their confidence and performance skills.
The GCSE Drama Edexcel syllabus allows students to explore interests from Key Stage 3 to a higher level. This provides a great platform to continue developing their performance and analytical skills before starting their coursework and exams. The GCSE course ends with a final performance that is externally marked and demonstrates the extent of their development and understanding of performance technique.
The BTEC Performing Arts course combines Drama and Music and students will study both disciplines on the course. Students will complete 3 units which focus on preparing for performance, performing and evaluating. Students will have the opportunity to prepare audition pieces, develop their musical talents and create drama for performance.
