The Science Team
The Science team is fully committed to developing students into independent, reflective learners, who are able to critically engage with the world. The department is made up of nine teachers and three support staff. It is part of the Science and Technology School.
The Science Department
Each Science class is taught in a purpose built Science laboratory. These are fully equipped to teach each of the individual Sciences of Chemistry, Physics and Biology to A Level standard.
Key Stage 3
Activate Scheme of Work
Students in years 7 and 8 follow the Activate Key Stage 3 Science curriculum. This is a brand new course that aims to spark the students' interest in Science from Year 7 and support them through Key Stage 3 to GCSE success. It is tailored to the new 2014 curriculum and includes:
- Fun facts, activities, quizzes and questions to engage all students
- Tasks differentiated to students of all abilities
- Engaging practical activities
- Maths, Literacy and Scientific skills embedded throughout to develop key skills
- Formative and summative assessment tasks
- Homework activities
All students have access to the Activate textbook and learning resources via Kerboodle
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4 students follow one of the following three GCSE Science Courses
OCR GCSE Gateway Core Science
This course is worth 1 GCSE and provides students with a thorough grounding in the basics of Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Its structure is shown below.
OCR GCSE Gateway Additional Science
This course is worth 2 GCSEs and provides students with a thorough understanding of Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Its structure is shown below.
OCR GCSE Gateway Further Additional Science
This course is worth 3 GCSEs and provides students with an advanced understanding of Chemistry, Physics and Biology. This course is most suited for those students who wish to study the Sciences at A level or follow a career in a Science related discipline. Its structure is shown below.
Key Stage 5
In year 12 students have the opportunity to study A levels in Chemistry, Physics and Biology in partnership with the Space Studio School.
In year 13 students have the opportunity to continue studying A levels in Chemistry, Physics and Biology
